Wideband Install (LC-1)

It is actually pretty simple to wire an Innovative LC-1 into the miata.

Install

  1. First you must weld the provided bung into your downpipe.
    • Make sure it is atleast 1 to 2 feet from the turbo to prevent heat damage to the sensor.
  2. Then you must choose a location for your control unit.
    • I put it in the engine bay under the brake master cylinder.
    • Others have put it inside the car by running the wires through the gap where the shifter is.

Wireing

  • LC-1 with 6 stripped ends:
    • Red 12V supply - I used the blue connector by the drivers side headlight
    • Blue Heater Ground
    • White System Ground
      • Both grounded to the chassis, as close to the ECU ground as you can get.
    • Yellow Analog out 1 - gauge, megasquirt, etc.
    • Brown Analog out 2 - gauge, megasquirt, etc.
    • Black Calibration wire - Wrap this in electrical tape, not needed yet.
  • LC-1 with only 7 stripped ends:
    • Red 12V supply - I used the blue connector by the drivers side headlight
    • Blue Heater Ground
    • White System Ground
    • Green Analog Ground
      • All grounded to the chassis, as close to the ECU ground as you can get.
    • Yellow Analog out 1 - gauge, megasquirt, etc.
    • Brown Analog out 2 - gauge, megasquirt, etc.
    • f. Black Calibration wire - Wrap this in electrical tape, not needed yet.

For the black calibration wire:

Simply wire this so it goes:

  • Black wire —> LED (most any will do) —> Push button —> Ground

The anode (long wire) on the LED should be connected to the black wire
The cathode (short wire) on the LED should be grounded.

Setup

Now after screwing the sensor into your downpipe, connecting it to the control unit, and wiring the control unit, you must calibrate it.

To do this:

  1. Unscrew the sensor from the downpipe
  2. Turn the ignition on
  3. Wait 3 Minutes for the sensor to warm up
  4. Push the push button on the black wire and hold it for 3 seconds
  5. The LED will now go off
  6. When it turns back on (about 3 minutes), switch the ignition off
  7. Wait 30 seconds
  8. Screw the sensor back on

This should be done every 10,000 miles from now on.
